Bolinas

A few weekends ago, I went on a day trip with a few friends to first, an amazing bakery, and second, an amazing beach.  Here are some shots from the day.

Pretty flowers in front of the bakery:

Along the way to the beach, we found this random cheese factory with a lake/pond next to it:

Some of the trees by the pond had bizarre clay balls hanging off its branches...

An altogether wonderful day!  As my friend put it, "It's a day that lingers with you."  :)

Engagement shoot

Here are shots from the engagement shoot I did yesterday on Stanford campus.  It was lots of fun to be back behind the camera doing couples again -- it's been a while since my last one!  I'm doing their wedding in April so stay tuned for more photos.

Check out my site for more photos from this shoot:

Definitely a fun loving couple!  There are some other shots that, as my friend put it, "defy physics."

The next two photos were taken at the spot where the two would meet up during the day when they first started dating:

This weekend is a photo filled weekend!  Besides this engagement shoot, two photo shoots for the magazine.  Whew!  :D

Playing with studio lights

My friend, Wilmot, converted his garage into a studio, complete with backdrops and lights.  A little while ago we played around with the lights, which was my first time really using studio lights.  Much to learn and so much fun!  :)

I like the real laugh in this one:

Magazine photos

The magazine that I took photos for last year is starting the next issue and I'm taking more photos for it.  Here are two shots from the latest shoot.  I realized (or I should say, re-realized) that when you are shooting with a specific page layout in mind, this in someways constrains you but at the same time makes you be more consciencious/thoughtful about the shots you take.

Thanks to Y.O. for the location idea!

Archaeology Department

Last month, I took some photos for Stanford's Archaeology Department brochure.  The department has beautiful facilities -- I loved the high ceilings and wooden ceiling supports.  Here are a few shots:

You can see more photos at my new site!  :)

juliekim.zenfolio.com  or a direct link to the album

I'm slowly working backwards and adding photos from photo shoots, travels, etc to the site.  There should be a steady stream of newly uploaded albums for the next couple weeks while I get the site up to date.

Around the house

I just recently upgraded from my Canon Rebel Xt to the Canon 40D. The Rebel was having some issues recently and I've had my eye on the 40D for a while. Between being sick and being busy with work, I haven't had much time to play with the new camera. But I took some shots around my parents' backyard/garage today. Feels good to be back behind the camera.

Happy Holidays!

p.s. My apologies if the colors are off.  I'm working off of a laptop and not my usual monitor.

Magazine photos

Wow, it's been a really long time since I've posted. Things have been pretty hectic these days so I haven't been able to do much (ok, any) photography lately. Here are a few photos I did for a magazine a couple months ago but never got around to posting. Can't wait for things to settle down so I can do some shoots! :)

Stanford Dish at Sunset

Last weekend, I went up to the Stanford Dish for the first time. We timed our trip to be right around sunset so we had some amazingly beautiful light.

The setting sun was gorgeous today. I need to take more photos.
